Supervisory Hydrologist

As a Supervisory Hydrologist within the Central Midwest Water Science Center (CMWSC), some of your specific duties will include:
Serve as the Unit Chief of the CMWSC DeKalb Field Unit. Establish staff performance standards and rates performance. Is integral to processes relating to promotions, awards, disciplinary, and adverse actions. Instructs and trains staff on proper field data collection and record procedures as needed. Promote and maintain cooperative relations with USGS programs as well as local, State, and other Federal agencies concerning the development and operation of hydrologic data networks. Represents the USGS CMWSC at meetings and conferences with partners and cooperators. Direct, plan and supervise personnel during the installation of river gage structures, crest stage gages and/or ground water levels. Maintain a budget for assigned unit. Properly plan for annual spending and acquisitions. Identify and address funding and budget issues. Responsible for management of funding assigned to the unit and operates within the constraints of the funding and budget. Serve as the DeKalb Field Office expert on new and innovative technologies in the area of hydrologic data collection. Review on a continuing basis, the network operations of the office with the view of developing improved methods and practices for more efficient field and office procedures. Support, direct, and personally participate in hydraulic and hydrologic studies related to Center and Unit program objectives as needed Operates a government owned or leased vehicle as an incidental driver. PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Approximately 80 percent work is performed in an office, which is somewhat sedentary, and up to 20 percent field work, which can range from mild physical effort to short periods of extreme physical endurance under hazardous conditions. Stress associated with meeting deadlines and center goals can be common to the position. WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment involves normal, everyday risks or discomforts typical of offices, meeting rooms, vehicles, and general outdoor locations such as streets, lots, woods, or parks. Outdoor work may at times be under adverse weather conditions such as rain, cold weather, and wet or icy stream banks. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Hydrologist, all grade levels. A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics. B. A combination of education and experience-course work as shown in A above (30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses as specified in A above which must include at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in A above. In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience include planning and executing complex hydrologic studies, which usually involved intensive investigations into recognized phenomena. This work typically involved conventional methods & techniques though it required going beyond clear precedents, and required adapting methods to the problems at hand and interpreting findings in terms of their scientific significance. At this level, Hydrologists have a very good knowledge of the principles of hydrology and their application, and the ability to independently perform scientific work of considerable difficulty. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
