The Commercial Estimator is the back-end nuts and bolts of our sales department that allows the sales veins to flow.
This position requires a detail-oriented individual who maintains a diligent and careful eye for accuracy.
The goal of the commercial estimator is to bid so rapidly and accurately that the producers cannot find enough projects to keep them busy.
Most importantly, however, the estimator is responsible for setting the bid up for a win by being accurate, timely, detailed, and customer-orientated.
They must work with the sales team to prioritize and ultimately win projects.

Cortland, IL office location with discretionary remote work.
Some local and minimal interstate travel for meetings, conventions, bidding/sales, and account activity.
The typical work week is M-F, daytime hours.
Full-time hours during our busy season with the potential for reduced hours during the off-season (Jan-mid March).
Essential Functions Project Estimation Run takeoffs, sift blueprints, and identify the scope of work Procure material lists/quotes using in-house technology and vendors Compose project summary and proposal Work with bidding tools and ops/sales team to determine appropriate labor and markup Participate in the RFI process to ensure timely and accurate bids and maintain relationships and ask questions with sales goals in mind Submit bid and backup documentation to the sales team or contractor as needed Find creative and value-engineered solutions that play into company favor and work to solve customer problems, make your proposal stand out and get the last look Sales support Establish and maintain per-foot pricing for all fences Establish and maintain cost estimating tools and project documentation backup organization and accessibility Provide Proposals and submit bids for sales as needed Maintain the ability to rapidly provide sales/BD with pricing for various fence items Maintain relationships with material vendors Seek and find new vendors and possible efficiencies to win more projects.
Communicate:
be a steward of excellent clear and consistent communication from bid invite to submittal Lead bid prioritization meetings with sales staff to ensure communication is upheld Follow-up (shared responsibility with salesmen) Pre-Work together with bid distributor and sales representatives to identify all bidders and ensure the bid makes it to all possible clients Post-meticulously seek to uncover results to determine overall accuracy and better gauge market Preconstruction/handoff Participate in an efficient consistent and complete handoff with operations staff including all necessary and relevant paperwork required for all awarded projects Ensure accurate, concise, consistent, and comprehensive turn-in of all take-offs, material lists, vendor quotes, project estimates, and submittals as needed for involved awarded projects.
Be available and able to answer questions and as a liaison between sales and operations staff for all involved awarded projects
Qualifications:
Understanding and experience using computer technology Must have the ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job Must maintain regular attendance, exhibit positive and professional conduct Capable of working with minimal supervision Must be able to relate positively and favorably to customers, and employees, and to work cooperatively with others.
